Over/Under (Totals) Betting Explained

A total, or over/under, is a bet on the combined score of both teams, regardless of who wins.

  • If the total is 45.5 and the final is 24–20 (44 points), the under wins.
  • A final of 27–21 (48 points) means the over wins.
  • With a whole-number total like 45, exactly 45 points is a push.

Totals are usually priced around -110 on each side. Check whether overtime or extra innings count. They do for standard full-game totals at most US books, but read the house rules.

Books often split here too: o45.5 (-110) at one book and o46 (-105) at another. Our odds board shows both the number and the price so you can compare.

Responsible gambling: Betting should be entertainment, never a way to make money or recover losses. Set a budget and a time limit before you start, and never chase losses. You must be 21+ (age limits vary by state) and located where betting is legal. If gambling stops being fun, call or text 1-800-GAMBLER (National Problem Gambling Helpline, 24/7, free, confidential).
